Sweden may have a digital currency in five years, says Riksbank governor

Sweden may have a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in five years, Sveriges Riksbank governor Stefan Ingves said on April 15.

The governor told reporters give years “is a reasonable target”, Bloomberg reports. This is the first time the Swedish central bank has publicly provided a possible timeframe for launching the e-krona.
