‘Giant of the field’ Robert Mundell dies

The Nobel laureate influenced a generation of economists via the Mundell-Fleming model

The influential international economist and Nobel laureate Robert Mundell has died, aged 88.

Mundell, a professor of economics at Columbia University since 1974, shaped the course of 20th century economics with his ideas on the dynamics of open economies. Paul Krugman, himself a Nobel laureate in economics, described Mundell as a “giant of the field”. Mundell was also an editorial adviser to Central Banking.
