Lebanese parliament demands central bank audit

Lawmakers say vote overrules banking secrecy laws and central bank must release documents

A majority in Lebanon’s parliament voted for the forensic audit of the central bank to be restarted, after the firm given the job quit.

Lawmakers voted on November 27 in favour of a motion that authorised the independent audit of all the central bank. It also called for independent audits of all other major state economic institutions, including the finance ministry.

The previous week, auditors from the US firm Alvarez & Marsal refused to continue the job, the country’s caretaker finance
