Mexican governor and president clash over loan allegations

Díaz de Leon says controversial loan decision was made before he headed development bank

Mexico’s central bank governor has rejected a statement by the country’s president that implicated him in a controversial loan.

On August 26, in his daily press conference, Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador accused the public development bank Bancomext of approving a controversial loan used by the national oil company Pemex. The loan was allegedly used to pay over the odds for the acquisition of a fertiliser plant.
