Liberian government puts five central bank officials back on trial

Prosecutor alleges former governor and deputy governor carried out “economic sabotage”

Liberia’s government has placed five former and current central bank officials back on trial for alleged corruption, after dropping charges against four of them last month.

Liberian president George Weah has made it plain that he believes some senior central bank officials, including former governor Milton Weeks, should be prosecuted for corruption. This has led to a confusing and increasingly chaotic process. Weah has dismissed two central bank governors in the past two years, including Weeks
