ECB monetary policy statements should change – Italian governor

Visco rejects idea of putting names to votes as eurozone governors differ on inflation policy

The governing council of the European Central Bank should become more transparent about its monetary policy deliberations, said Italian governor Ignazio Visco.

“We have to discuss within the council how to be more transparent,” said Visco in the Washington, DC-based International Institute of Finance on October 17. Nonetheless, the governor said the pros and cons of that decision should be weighted, because more transparency may compromise the council’s independence from political interference
