DNB paper looks at how regulation affects systemic risk

Restrictions on entry increased systemic risk before financial crisis, researchers say

A paper published by the Netherlands Bank investigates how different countries’ micro-prudential regulatory regimes are related to the amount of systemic risk posed by banks.

In Micro-prudential regulation and banks’ systemic risk, Jakob de Haan, Zhenghao Jin and Chen Zhou present what they call a “a bank-level systemic risk indicator”. This indicator can show both a bank’s individual risk and its systemic linkage, the authors say.
