Afghanistan must reform banks further, IMF says

Banking sector still shows weakness despite good work on economic reforms – IMF executive board

The International Monetary Fund praised progress made by Afghanistan’s authorities in economic reform as it disbursed more aid, but said the country’s banks needed to be strengthened.

The IMF’s executive board approved another tranche of aid to Afghanistan of 4.5 million in special drawing rights ($6.2 million). Afghanistan has received SDR27 million, or about $37.3 million from the IMF since the extended credit facility started in July 2016.
