Argentina’s push for central bank independence faces hurdles

Government sent bill to parliament to prohibit monetary financing but political support is elusive

The Argentine government sent a bill to Congress on March 29 that aims to enhance the independence of the central bank, prohibits monetary financing and simplifies its goals. However, the legislation faces an uphill battle in the face of considerable opposition in parliament.
