Central Bank of Liberia officials arrested over banknote allegations

Kroll report finds “discrepancies” in CBL’s handling of two banknote contracts

Two officials of the Central Bank of Liberia were arrested on February 28, as an independent report highlighted issues with the way the central bank had handled two banknote contracts.

Deputy governor Charles Sirleaf and director of banking Dorbor Hagba were led away from the central bank in handcuffs hours after the report was published, according to local media. Charles Sirleaf is the son of Liberia’s former president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
