The European Court of Justice ruled that Latvia’s courts had acted wrongfully in effectively preventing the country’s central bank governor from fulfilling his role after he was arrested on corruption charges.

The ECJ ruled today (February 26) that Bank of Latvia governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs should not have been subject to a Latvian court order preventing him from entering the central bank or using its computers, pending the outcome of any trial on criminal charges. The court had also acted
