A Russian politician publicly accused of links to the country’s intelligence services and organised crime networks has stepped down as deputy governor of its central bank.

Aleksandr Torshin is a political supporter of Russian president Vladimir Putin, who appointed him to the role of deputy governor at the Bank of Russia in January 2015. Torshin was an employee of the central bank in the 1990s, but he has also been the subject of detailed media reports alleging links to spying and money
