South Sudan president sacks central bank governor again

Country faces “enormous economic and humanitarian challenges”, says IMF staff report

South Sudan’s president has once again dismissed the governor of the war-torn country’s central bank and replaced him with a candidate of his choice.

President Salva Kiir Mayardit fired Bank of South Sudan governor Othom Rago Ajak on May 10 and replaced him with Dier Tong Ngor, according to locally based reports. Ngor was previously deputy governor at the central bank. Kiir also appointed Albino Dak Othow as deputy governor.

The president’s official spokesman told the Bloomberg news agency
