Listening devices and other pieces of ‘bugging’ equipment have been found at the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, its executive board has announced.

The central bank’s statement does not make clear who placed the listening devices, when they were installed, or whether and how often they were used. The institution’s last governor was dismissed in September 2017 in acrimonious circumstances, following allegations he dishonestly failed to pay pension contributions.
