Latvian governor barred from entering central bank

Deputy governor effectively in charge as governor banned during bribery investigation

Latvia’s central bank council has banned current governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs from entering the premises or using any of the bank’s resources, including its IT system, according to a spokesman.

Deputy governor Zoja Razmusa is now effectively in charge of the Bank of Latvia, the spokesman confirms, saying the decision to bar Rimšēvičs from carrying out his duties as central bank governor or on the European Central Bank’s (ECB) governing council had been taken by Latvia’s anti-corruption bureau
