Latvian governor unable to attend ECB meeting due to corruption inquiry

Parliament will debate governor’s continuation in role this week

The deputy governor of Latvia’s central bank will attend the meeting of the European Central Bank’s governing council meeting today (March 7) and tomorrow, as governor Ilmārs Rimšēvičs is unable to leave the country due to an ongoing corruption investigation.

Deputy governor Zoja Razmusa will attend the governing council’s monetary policy meeting in Frankfurt instead, a Bank of Latvia spokeswoman confirmed to Central Banking. The European Central Bank has not made any public comment on
