Greek governor accuses government of ‘outright lies’ over bribery allegations

Prime minister says he wants the truth, but Stournaras accuses government of deception

A Greek parliamentary inquiry will investigate allegations that Bank of Greece governor Yannis Stournaras accepted illegal payments during his time as Greece’s finance minister.

Stournaras strongly denied the allegations in official statements, accusing Greece’s current leftist government of implicating him in the affair to remove him from office.  

Greece’s parliament voted on February 21 to mount an official investigation into Stournaras and 11 other senior officials in previous governments
