On February 7, Tunisian prime minister Youssef Chahed initiated the process to replace the governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Chedli Ayari, according to local press reports, as the country struggles to overcome economic challenges.

Ayari’s removal must be sanctioned by president Beji Caid Essebsi and voted through by the national assembly. The executive would aim to substitute him with Maouane El Abassi, the World Bank’s representative in Libya, according to the reports.
