Malaysian inquiry calls for investigation of former PM – local media

Some local media attack inquiry as politically motivated after criticism of current leader

An official Malaysian inquiry into alleged malpractice within the country’s central bank during the 1990s has recommended a former prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, be investigated for criminal offences, several local media sources have reported.

In June 2017, Malaysia’s government set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into Bank Negara Malaysia’s foreign exchange dealings in the 1990s. The commission heard evidence from senior figures in the BNM and Malaysian government before sending a report
