Italian premier proposes Visco for a second term, despite opposition

Former prime minister Renzi tried to derail governor’s renewal, questioning his record on supervision

The centre-left Italian prime minister, Paolo Gentiloni, has reportedly proposed Ignazio Visco for a second six-year mandate as governor of the Bank of Italy, despite the last-hour resistance of former head of government Matteo Renzi.

Several Italian papers said Gentiloni had nominated Visco, in reports published this afternoon.
