Gambian ex-governor says he feared for his family’s life under deposed president

Former governor tells tribunal he obeyed orders to open accounts and hand over cash

The former governor of the Central Bank of the Gambia has testified that he obeyed the orders of the country’s deposed president out of fear for his family members’ lives.

Amadou Colley told a tribunal in the Gambia that he had opened government accounts at the central bank for then-president Yahya Jammeh on the president’s own instructions, local media reported. Government accounts should have been opened on the instructions of the country’s accountant-general, Colley said.
