BoE workers walk out over continuing pay dispute

Workers launch first of three days of strike action amid complaint over fairness of pay awards

The Bank of England (BoE) suffered its first day of strike action in 50 years today (August 1), after talks failed to end a dispute over pay.

A group of workers from maintenance, security and parlours – the offices of the BoE’s senior officials – protested outside the central bank’s headquarters on Threadneedle Street, bearing placards demanding “fair pay”.

Talks continued as late as yesterday in an effort to end the strikes, but ultimately failed. Both sides have indicated they are still
