New coins to launch in Philippines in 2017, says deputy governor

Series will integrate new security features akin to those used in banknotes

The Central Bank of the Philippines (BSP) will exclude the 10 cent from its new series of coins due to be minted this year, Central Banking understands.

The newly designed coins, which will have new banknote-style security features, were revealed by deputy governor Diwa Guinigundo in an interview, following the release of the institution’s latest inflation report, a spokesperson from the bank confirmed.

According to the deputy governor, the central bank plans to mint coins for the one ($0.02)
