New Zealand government reviews monetary policy process

Opposition pledges it will make major changes to central bank mandate if elected

New Zealand’s government has commissioned a review of the central bank’s monetary policy-making framework, it announced on April 8, shortly before the leading opposition party pledged major changes.

Steven Joyce, finance minister in the government led by the centre-right National Party, said Iain Rennie, formerly head of New Zealand’s civil service, would examine the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s (RBNZ) monetary policy-making, local media reported.
