Sri Lankan governor appears before inquiry into alleged fraud

Critics allege malpractice involving firm owned by former governor’s son-in-law

Sri Lankan central bank governor Indrajith Coomaraswamy appeared today (February 21) before a government-appointed inquiry into alleged bond-dealing malpractice at the institution, local media reported.

Sri Lankan president Maithripala Sirisena announced he was setting up the presidential commission of inquiry into the central bank on January 22 this year. On January 23, the central bank said it had established an internal inquiry into the same charges.
