South Sudan president dismisses bank governor, reports allege

Country’s economy in crisis, but central bank role appears limited, experts say

South Sudan's central bank governor, Kornelio Koriom Mayik, has allegedly been dismissed by the country's president, local reporters said on January 15. Experts on the recently independent country tell CentralBanking.com that South Sudan's economy is in an extremely weak condition.

Local television announced that president Salva Kiir dismissed Mayik and replaced him with Othom Ajak, the reports say. Mayik has been governor of the Bank of South Sudan since the nation became formally independent
