Sri Lanka invites bids to mint 970 million coins

Central bank calling for four denominations of coin to be minted by end-March 2019

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka invited bids to mint 970 million coins for the country today (July 27) – appealing to publicly owned mints with at least 10 years' experience in the business.

All four of the denominations will need to be minted, with the central bank demanding 190m one rupee coins, 175m two rupee coins, 230m five rupee coins, and 375m ten rupee coins.

They will need to be supplied on a "staggered basis" before March 31, 2019. They do not necessarily have to come from the same
