Malta’s deputy governor denies corruption allegations

Deputy governor says bribery allegations are “motivated by revenge and hate”

The most senior politician in Malta's parliamentary opposition has said the central bank's deputy governor, Alfred Mifsud, cannot take over as governor until he has refuted allegations of corruption. Mifsud strongly denies the allegations and has initiated two lawsuits.

The deputy has been widely reported in local media to be the favoured candidate of Malta's prime minister, Joseph Muscat, to become next governor of the Central Bank of Malta (CBM).
