Ghanaian deputy becomes new governor

President appoints second deputy to top role

One of two deputy governors of the Bank of Ghana has been appointed governor by the country's president, the bank confirmed on April 5. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku succeeds Henry Wampah, who stepped down last month.

Issahaku joined the bank as second deputy governor in July 2013, serving on the central bank's eleven-person board. In that role he was responsible for nine departments, including economics, banking supervision and financial stability.

He previously served as CEO of Ghana's export
