Argentina's president-elect Mauricio Macri has vowed to lift capital controls in the country when he takes office, with one former central bank economist arguing the sooner they are removed, the "better for everyone".

Speaking to Central Banking, the former economist said the controls had created a "huge set of distortions" within the economy and were hindering the country's recovery from high inflation.
