Sweden may face "economic crisis" if its government does not limit demand in the housing market, the governor of Sveriges Riksbank has warned.

Overheated house prices mean Swedish household debt "is reaching a critical level with leaps and bounds", Stefan Ingves told an audience in Stockholm on November 19.

Ingves warned Sweden might suffer a banking crisis or a combination of slumping demand and rising inflation unless the government took urgent measures. The central bank is unable to tackle
