Further rate hikes likely as Chile raises 25bp

Central bank lifts rate to 3.25% in first move in four years

The Central Bank of Chile could continue increasing its policy rate in the coming months, after raising it an initial 25 basis points to 3.25% on October 15.

The decision to hike was the first time in more than four years the central bank has moved the rate. In the board's September meeting, members identified the potential need to withdraw monetary stimulus by 50–75bp.
