Irish deputy Stefan Gerlach steps down early

Deputy follows governor in planning to leave before the end of his term

Stefan Gerlach will leave the Central Bank of Ireland before the end of his term as deputy governor, the institution announced today (September 23), to return to Switzerland and "pursue other interests".

He will step down "by the end of the year" – setting the stage for an overhaul at the top of the central bank, with governor Patrick Honohan stepping down in the coming days.
