The UK's new £20 banknote will be printed on a polymer substrate, the Bank of England (BoE) revealed today (September 2).

The BoE is in the process of replacing its existing banknotes, and the central bank announced in December 2013 the new £5 and £10 notes would be polymer.

Victoria Cleland, the BoE's chief cashier and director of notes, said in a speech today the central bank has made "good progress" on the note designs, and De La Rue will start mass producing the £5 notes later this month
