CBSL hits back at former deputy over governance

Sri Lanka's central bank calls claims appointment was unlawful ‘grossly incorrect'

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) yesterday hit back at a former deputy who claimed the decision to delegate the governor's responsibilities to a deputy had no legal basis, calling the claim "grossly incorrect".

The CBSL's monetary board put P Samarasiri, a deputy governor, in charge of the bank last week, after an investigation into potential wrongdoing in a February bond auction prompted governor Arjuna Mahendran to take a period of leave.
