Jozef Makúch was reappointed as National Bank of Slovakia governor yesterday, making him the first person to be handed a second term since the institution was established in 1993.

Makúch was initially appointed on January 12, 2010, when his predecessor Ivan Šramko elected to step down at the end of his term, after overseeing the accession of Slovakia to the eurozone.

Makúch was handed a five-year term, which expired yesterday, but he has now been handed an additional, extended six-year term
