Spencer Dale, the Bank of England's (BoE) executive director for financial stability and the bank's chief economist for six years until June, has left to become chief economist at energy major BP, the BoE said today.

Dale, a BoE veteran of 25 years, will take up his new position on October 27 after a "cooling off period" of almost three months, according to a spokesperson for the bank, who said the 47-year-old stepped down "late last week".

Dale's departure comes nine weeks after he swapped jobs
