Central bank statistics departments facing multiple strains, says ECB’s Schubert

The statistics department at the European Central Bank (ECB) faces a tough challenge to secure and distribute key supervisory data in addition to meeting an increasing burden for monetary and other statistics, as the ECB looks set to gain new supervisory powers to oversee about 130 of Europe's largest banks in 2014.

The development is not unique to the ECB, as a number of central banks around the world are being given expanded mandates that will create an additional burden on their statistics
