Zimbabwean central bank chief slams ‘reckless’ indigenisation

The "reckless and unstructured" attempts to force the indigenisation of Zimbabwe's banking sector "can only be counter-productive", according to the central bank governor, Gideon Gono.

Speaking last week, he revealed that all but a few of the indigenously owned banks are struggling to meet the minimum standards of capitalisation required of them, and lack the capacity to "mobilise meaningful international lines of credit for the country's needs".
