Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour
Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour is governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, a position he took on for a five-year term on July 1, 2023. He joined the central bank in 1988, rising to deputy governor in 2016. He graduated from Universiti Malaya with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also holds an MBA from the Saïd Business School at Oxford University. Between 2016 and 2023 he served as deputy governor overseeing various core functions, most recently including monetary policy and economics, international reserves management and financial markets, and financial sector development. Between 2012 and 2014, he was on secondment as alternate executive director for the Southeast Asia voting group at the office of the International Monetary Fund. He has also played key roles in the development and implementation of the Financial Sector Masterplan and Financial Sector Blueprints.
