MAS’s Chia points to the value of EM bonds

Renminbi interest may act as catalyst for emerging market bonds

Sovereign investors facing the prospect of ongoing low yields from traditional reserve asset investments may need to increase their exposures to emerging market assets, according to Chia Der Jiun, assistant managing director of the markets and investment group at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Despite the strong performance of bond and equity markets in the recent years, there is growing concern that benign market and economic conditions could turn negative in the months and years
