Hayami says Greenspan against inflation targeting

JAPAN - Bank of Japan Governor Masaru Hayami said on Thursday U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan had told him the U.S. central bank chief was opposed to the idea of setting an inflation target for central banks.

"I spoke with him for about an hour when I visited Washington for the G7 meeting last month, and he made it clear that he was against the idea of inflation targeting," Hayami told an Upper House financial committee.

Greenspan said in a speech last week that inflation targeting
