China sought safety in US Treasuries as eurozone markets unsettled investors
China added $17.7 billion of US government debt to its stockpile in March, the largest increase in six months, according to US Treasury data out Monday, as concerns heightened of a Greek sovereign debt crisis.
According to the data, net foreign purchases of US long-term government debt from US investors rose sharply to $140.5 billion in March from $47.1 billion in February. Long-term government debt refers to US Treasuries with a maturity of more than a year.
