Monetary council keeps 3.25% inflation target unchanged despite president’s criticism

Brazil’s president said on February 16 that he was “not interested in fighting the citizen who is governor of the central bank”, hinting at a possible de-escalation of conflict between the Central Bank of Brazil and the government.

Speaking to CNN Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he wanted central bank governor Roberto Campos Neto to “take care of inflation, growth and employment”, as provided for by the 2021 central bank law.

Lula spoke the same day as the National Monetary Council
