Deposit guarantee schemes vary widely in calculating risk, EBA says

European directive gives countries’ deposit guarantee schemes “considerable flexibility”

Deposit guarantee schemes in different countries in the European Union vary widely in how they calculate banks’ risk, the European Banking Authority says in a report. But the calculations do not appear to be out of line with other assessments of bank risk, it adds.

The EBA’s comments come in its report on the European Commission’s Deposit Guarantee Schemes Directive, which became law in June 2014. The DGSD aims to harmonise deposit guarantee schemes in the European Union.
