Fischer examines growth dilemma

Fed vice-chairman advocates wait-and-see approach

Stanley Fischer, the vice-chairman of the Federal Reserve, offered some thoughts on the US productivity puzzle on November 4.

In a short speech given at an event sponsored by the International Monetary Fund, Fischer commented on the state of the US economy, which seems favourable given the recent performance of the labour market, and a pickup in inflation and economic growth.

However, Fischer noted there were longer-term issues that needed to be examined, citing economist Larry Summers' view
