RBI’s Subbarao: Tobin tax benefits “debatable”
Duvvuri Subbarao, the governor of the Reserve Bank of India, on Tuesday said the country would continue to look at its options on liberalising its capital account.
Subbarao discussed the option of using a Tobin tax, which he said "figured prominently" in the discussion on capital controls, but said the efficacy of a Tobin-type tax remained a "debatable issue". Subbarao revealed late last month that a Tobin tax was one idea being considered as a means of curbing capital inflows.
Subbarao said
