IMF headquarters in Washington, DC

An International Monetary Fund paper, published on Thursday, examines the impact of foreign credit growth on emerging European economies in the run-up to the financial crisis.

Kai Guo and Vahram Stepanyan, the paper's authors, compare credit growth levels in Romania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia Hungary, Poland, and the Czech Republic during both pre- and post-crisis periods to outline the impact of the crisis on the main determinants of bank credit in each country.
