Small firms also make it in exports
Economies of scale play only a minor role in determining a firm's export status, new research from Philadelphia Federal Reserve finds.
The research shows that although according to theory only larger, more productive firms generate enough net revenues abroad to cover the fixed costs associated with exporting, US data shows that small exporters play a crucial part on the overall size of exports.
