Fischer approved as Bank of Israel governor

Israel's state appointments committee approved the nomination of renowned American economist Stanley Fischer late on Tuesday 18 January as chief of Israel's central bank.

"The committee determined in a recommendation given this evening to all cabinet members that there is no obstacle to the appointment of Professor Stanley Fischer as governor of the Bank of Israel," the cabinet secretary's office said in a statement.
